Hello, I'm Julie.

Julie Bell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Dalhousie University. After honing her client service skills in both Advertising and Communication Technology, Julie decided to pursue her life-long goal of becoming a massage therapist.

Julie completed 1,000 hours of massage training at Foothills College of Massage Therapy in August 2006 and is registered with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada Association.  She has since completed additional training in advanced massage therapy courses and BodyTalk Access. She plans to pursue further areas of interest including Reflexology and full BodyTalk certification.

Julie uses relaxation and therapeutic massage techniques as well as more specific skills including myofascial release and deep tissue work.

SERVICES

Regularly scheduled massage therapy can play a big part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you’ll remain. Accumulated stress is one of the causes of illness and can contribute to rapid aging. Budgeting time and money for regular massages is an investment in your health.

Many employers provide massage therapy coverage through their extended healthcare plan.  Ask your Benefits Coordinator for information on how your coverage works and take advantage of the many benefits of regular massage treatments.

Relaxation

When your primary goal is to improve your sense of well-being, overall wellness and inner calm; when your have no specific condition to treat but are looking for the relief of discomfort brought on by stress and chronic muscular tension. Relaxation massage treats the full body to reconnect, rejuvenate, and restore balance to the system as a whole.

Therapeutic

Using advanced techniques and gradually deeper pressure, therapeutic massage is used to treat specific muscle groups affected by spasm, chronic pain or injury.  Although relaxation is a component of this treatment it is mainly used to achieve a specific result.

Prenatal

Prenatal massage addresses the specific concerns of the pregnant woman while her body is adapting during this special time.

It is also a wonderful opportunity for the mother-to-be to relax before the ‘big day’. Positioning on the massage table is modified to accommodate a pregnant woman’s changing body.

BENEFITS

_

Some experts believe that more than ninety percent of illness is stress related. Nothing ages us faster than high stress. While massage cannot eliminate the anxiety and pressure caused by our daily lives, it can help manage that stress. The relief of physical and mental stress can:

  • Promote an overall feeling of relaxation, helping you breathe and move more easily
  • Alleviate pain and tension
  • Promote a speedy recovery from injuries (work, trauma, accident or sports-related)
  • Increase mobility by providing greater joint flexibility and range of motion
  • Improve circulation
  • Improve and strengthen immune system
  • Relieve pregnancy discomforts
  • Decrease anxiety
  • Enhance the quality of your sleep

TESTIMONIALS
_______________

Having also been trained as a registered massage therapist, I can absolutely vouch for Julie.  She is extremely knowledgeable and whole-heartedly invested in her patient’s health and well-being! She is skilled and professional. I would highly recommend her!

Shannon K.

I have had the privilege of seeing Julie Bell for monthly massages for over nine years now. She has worked with me through two difficult pregnancies, a couple of minor injuries and chronic muscle pain and tension. On a couple of occasions I have seen other massage therapists and cannot believe the difference in how I feel after seeing Julie in comparison. I continue to travel over 30 minutes each way just to see her as I cannot find another therapist that helps me the way she has! She is worth every minute!

FAQ

_

What happens during my first appointment with a Registered Massage Therapist?

During your first visit with a Registered Massage Therapist, your health history form and initial assessments will take place. After filling out the health history form, I will ask questions and possibly perform physical or movement tests to help determine which areas need treatment. You and I will discuss a treatment plan, and then you will be left alone in the room for a few minutes to get yourself ready and on the table. After the Massage portion you may be shown exercises or activities designed to help alleviate your problem areas. Then you and I will determine a treatment plan for follow-up treatments if they are necessary.

How long will a Massage Therapy treatment last?

I book a minimum 45-minute treatment as your first appointment. After that you may have 30, 45, or 60-minute treatments. Your first appointment may last longer to allow me to go through the paperwork (case history and consent form) and to assess your needs for treatment, and still have enough time to give you a comprehensive treatment. After the first treatment you and I will work together to determine what length/frequency will be most beneficial to you.

Is a massage always appropriate?

No, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. That’s why it is necessary that you fill out the health history forms before you begin your session. I will ask general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. It is very important that you inform me of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care for a chronic condition, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, e-transfer, and all major credit cards. I am also able to direct bill to most major insurance companies. Your insurance information can be provided at the time of your treatment to determine if there what portion of your treatment is covered by your benefit plan. Note: some extended health plans require a referral or prescription from a medical doctor prior to your appointment.

How do I book an appointment?

I can be contacted by phone or you can book online here.

What should I expect after a massage therapy treatment?

After a session, most people feel very relaxed. Many experience reduced aches and pains that have built up over months of tension or repetitive activity.

It is recommended that you drink plenty of water after your treatment.

It is normal to have some soreness for 24-48 hours following a massage treatment, similar to the sensation experienced after a good workout.

You will likely feel subtle shifts occurring over the following days as well. Some examples are:

  • less intensity and frequency of the pain in various areas of your body
  • increased mobility
  • enhanced sleep quality
  • reduced stress, irritability and anxiety levels
  • and more…!

As with exercise, the benefits of massage increase with regular treatments. You may find that you experience deeper relaxation and great gains in overall wellness with each massage therapy session.
